Moth damage Repair (for handmade carpets)
- Moths attack and eat the wool fibers when your woolen carpets do not get fresh air, stored for a long time or a heavy object is blocking the air and light to come around certain area of the carpet.
- To repair moth damage, first the carpet has to be washed deeply to make sure all the damaged digested wool is removed and make sure there are no moths activities by applying an alkaline detergent to destroy the moths and moth’s eggs. Then the pattern of the damage part shall be sketched from back side of the carpet and flipped horizontal to guide the weaving repair knots. Once the area is restored, the extra height of the yarn is trimmed at the level of the original pile yarn.
